I came home from school one day while in first grade and asked my mother, “What’s a Tizabee?” “A what?” she asked, and having no idea herself what it was, she told me to use it in a sentence. I did better than that as I sang the song we had been taught that day, “My country tizabee, sweet land of liberty…”
My Mother entered that story in a contest held by a local radio station, winning First Prize!...they sent us a box marked “Fragile” & “Perishable” all over it...how exciting it was for us kids! Inside, wrapped in many layers of paper we found a little bamboo tray of Yucky Dried & Candied Fruit.
Ever since, all things Americana, I call “Tizabees” and seldom enter contests…..Sandy |
